2016 no doubt has been a very interesting year filled with lots of controversies and drama amongst Nigerian celebrities. From Don Jazzy and Olamide’s beef to that of Gbemi and Olumofin brothers, every month came with one drama or the other making it one of the most intriguing and controversial years in the entertainment space.has been a very intriguing year.
Stargist.com brings you all the controversies that shook the Nigerian entertainment industry in 2016;
1 Don Jazzy and Olamide Headies Awards 2015 Drama
It all started when Mavin’s Reekado Banks won the award for Next Rated Act at the Headies beating Lil Kesh (who is signed to Olamide’s YBNL), Korede Bello, Cynthia Morgan and Kiss Daniel.
The entire Mavin crew stood up to hail their boy butthe win did not go down well with Olamide and he spoke his mind when his artiste Adekunle Gold won the Best Alternative Act award for his song, Shade.
When Lil Kesh was giving his thanks, Olamide grabbed the mic from him and said,
This award belongs to Lil Kesh. Lil Kesh is our own Next Rated artist. F$$k that shit! The streets ti take over. Every f$$king single was a hit back to back. From Lyrically to Shoki to Efejoku. Ko ni dafun Iya anybody
The singer expressed his anger, threw the microphone on the floor and gave the middle finger as he stormed off the stage.
After Olamide stormed off the stage, Donjazzy took to the stage as he won his lifetime award and addressed Olamide (Who didn’t mention his name initially)with the statement “Egbon olamide, if it is car you want, come and collect it “ and stormed off the stage with the Mavin crew.
This however led to a war between both parties and it was the first major drama of 2016.
2.Wizkid And Dammy Krane
It all started when Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins held an exclusive ‘All Black Party’ at Club Quilox on Victoria Island, Lagos which had a lot of stars in attendance. A few days earlier, Dammy Krane called Wizkid out on social media for allegedly stealing his slangs and lyrics.It however turned boody when the two celebrities finally met at Obafemi Martins Party at Quilox.
Eyewitnesses say Dammy Krane was chilling at the VIP section with Teckno, when Wizkid came in with his Surulere goons, among whom was one “Igimu Eleniyan.”
Wizkid then picked up a Remy Martins bottle andsmashed it to Dammy’s head. With a bloodied head, Dammy tried fighting back but he was held back by people.
Wizkid reportedly moved to another VIP section and Dammy tried to go and meet him there to get his revenge. Once again, he was prevented.
2face and Timaya later stepped in to settle the rift but Wizkid walked away, with a vow that he’d still deal with Dammy.
3. Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi and Olumofin Brothers
Another drama that shook the entertainment world was the one between OAP Gbemi and the Olumofin brothers, Dokun and Joro.
It all went down when Gbemi tweeted about the brothers wanting to attend Toolz and Tunde’s wedding.
In her words in one of her tweets, she said; Shout out to the two brothers who make sure they attend every society wedding , whether they are invited or not . Awon social climbers.
The brothers who were sure she was referring to them called her out to the extent of calling her degrading names in different videos they posted on Instagram.
4. Davido Vs Baby Mama, Sophia vs Dele Momodu
After the drama between Davido and babymama, Sophia. Sophia’s uncle, Dele Momodu tried to intervene and the reaction from Davido was what he least expected.
Adeleke came at the respected veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, who he accused of not taking care of his niece, Sophia, alleging that Mr. Momodu and his wife entered the scene as busybodies who he claimed did not bother about the welfare of their niece until she had a baby for him.
In one of his songs, he called Dele Momodu his ‘boy’.
5 Wizkid & Linda Ikeji
Wizkid’s social media fight with Ikeji started when the celebrity blogger broke the news of him having a second baby mama. Linda also shared pictures of Wizkid and her second baby mama Binta Diallo and her son for Wizkid Ayo Jnr. As if that was not enough, Ikeji also broke the news of Wizkid’s eviction from his Lekki, Lagos home which he claimed to have bought.
With the second expose on Wizkid, the Ojuelegba singer took to social media to rain all manner of offensive words on the renowned blogger which she did not hesitate to hit back and it grew into something ugly that eventually involved the police.
6 Burna Boy & Baby Mama Drama
In May, Burna Boy was called out by a girl named Uju Stella on Instagram who revealed that the singer got her pregnant.
According to her, she tried reaching out to everyone possible that might be Burna Boy’s friend because Burna Boy had refused to take responsibility for the child and he was acting that way because she refused to terminate the pregnancy.
She claimed that Burna Boy has been threatening her and that he went as far as breaking the door of her house.
Hours later, Burna Boy made a controversial response to her claims when he posted a video on his instagram page with rapper Phyno filming and nodding his head. In the few seconds video Burna was singing to the lyrics from one of his songs “Fucced this hoe just once, now she’s telling me she pregnant” .
7 Wizkid & Second Baby Mama Drama
Binta Diamond Diallo, the mother of Wizkid’s alleged second son, came out to support claims that she just had a baby for the popular musician early this year.
While speaking to US celebrity site, The Shade Room she claimed that Wizkid had not seen his son and was on his way in being a dead beat dad.
She also said that he hasn’t shown much interest to his new son as she wanted him to step up to his responsibilities.
In February, Hip TV posted a video on YouTube of the singer refusing to speak about his alleged second child.Wizkid when asked by a Hip TV interviewer about his alleged baby mama put two hands together, flashed a charming smile, hugged the reporter and walked away.
8 Tiwa Savage & Tee Billz
In April 2016, Tiwa Savage’s husband, Tee Billz, had gone on a social media rant, accusing his wife of infidelity( that she had slept with some musicians including Don Jazzy, Dr. Sid and Tuface) and so many other issues.
But in an emotional video interview with Pulse, the singer revealed she had been miserable in her marriage for a long time.
Tiwa said she didn’t really know about what her husband had said online but what mattered to her most was that he should be found alive because he was suicidal.
Tiwa, who also admitted there had been cracks in the marriage for a long time voiced out a lot of allegations ranging from him cheating on her to not managing her affairs properly as her manager.also said she had been covering up in order for the public not to know the issues in her marriage and that she realized her marriage was over when she lost a pregnancy and her husband didn’t care about her health.
9 Toyin Aimakhu and Late Cancer Patient, Mayowa
Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu who is now known as Toyin Abraham in August sought to help a young lady, Mayowa that was diagnosed with cancer and needed millions of naira.
A fund raising initiative to save Mayowa’s life took the centre stage on social media and about N32m ($100,000 dollars) was said to have been raised by gofundme.com online platform in order to ensure the treatment of the poor cancer patient spearheaded by Toyin Aimakhu.
However, drama ensued when an unverified message went viral that “#SaveMayowa was a scam” because doctors had classified her case as terminal and did not release her medical records to any institution abroad.
Mayowa’s family blamed this on Toyin Aimakhu and refused to let her into Mayowa’s ward. Toyin went berserk as she created a scene at the hospital. As usual, a footage of the scenario went viral on social media.
10 Miss Anambra Sex Scandal
19-year-old Miss Anambra 2015, Chidinma Okeke was involved in a lesbian sex video scandal which went viral on social media, a few days before she handed over her crown. Miss Anambra 2015, at first denied involvement in the lewd video and said the video was ‘photo-shopped‘.
After the second sex video was released, Miss Anambra 2015 claimed she was drugged by the organisers of the event and had no idea that she was involved in such an act. The organizers of the pageant stuck to their word that they had no business with Miss Anambra 2015 lesbian sex video and even tagged her a liar.
11 Seun Egbegbe’s Theft
Movie marketer and Toyin Aimakhu’s ex boyfriend, Seun Egbegbe in November was reportedly caught stealing iphones at computer village, Ikeja and was beaten to a pulp and locked up in a police cell.
Though, Seun Egbegbe denied all the allegations, he has since been summoned by a law court in Lagos state.
12 Lilian Esoro & Ubi Franklin
Beautiful actress, Lilian Esoro’s marriage with husband, Ubi Franklin might have hit the rocks barely a year after they wedded as the role interpreter took off to Paris with her newly born son without her husband, Ubi Franklin.
On their wedding anniversary which fell on November 2016, Franklin took to Instagram to acknowledge it while Esoro posted photos of her sisters on Instagram gushing over them.
Recently, Lilian Esoro yanked Ubi Franklin’s surname off her Instagram page and deleted their wedding photos.
Ubi who recently spotted a wristwatch given to him as a gift wasn’t wearing his wedding ring .
