After hitting the mark of 229 hours and 58 minutes of straight DJing, Nigeria’s DJ Obi, whose real name is Obi Ajuonuma has ended his world record journey due to medical advice at 1:28pm on Saturday, July 2, 2016.

DJ Obi the current Guinness World Record for Longest Marathon Club DJing previously set at 200 hours with a 240-hour, ten-day set beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 and ending at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016.

Tonight an afterparty will be held to celebrate his efforts from 9pm at Sao Cafe, Lekki, the venue of the successful record attempt.

Celebrity friends and people who have supported DJ Obi throughout the past ten days will be in attendance as, Nigerian rapper, M.I. hosts the party.

At 229 hours and 58 minutes, he has DJed for longer than the current world record as he hopes to have an official announcement and verification by the Guiness World Records team as soon as possible.

According to E! News, Grammy award-winning rapper, Drake and Barbados born popsinger, Rihanna are officially an item.

There have been rumours that both artistes have been in an on and off relationship for some time now but it seems they are finally in a place to give themselves a shot at real relationship and see how they can make it work. An insider reportedly told E! News,  “He still loves her and never stopped. Rihanna is the one that’s been not wanting to settle down in the past. They are having fun spending time with each other. Their music together got them close again.”

Rihanna and Drake have had undeniable chemistry for some time now both in and out of the booth. Riri was on Drake’s track, Too Good off his newly released album, Views and before that, Drake featured in Rihanna’s smash hit single, ‘Work’ which had a steamy video with the Canadian born rapper, real name Aubrey Graham, getting superb grinding from the ‘gifted’ songstress.

Just recently, the OVO rapper made a surprise appearance during her concert in Manchester to perform ‘Work’ with her live on stage and at the end of it, he used the opportunity to gush about how much he adored the Roc Nation signee. He said, “Shout out to the most beautiful, talented woman I’ve ever seen,” he told the crowd. “She goes by the name of Rihanna…I’m gettin’ my heart broken.”

We finally have a first look at the soon to be released movie, 93 days chronicling Nigeria’s battle with Ebola and how Dr Stella Ameyo Adadevoh, played by veteran actress, Bimbo Akintola, sacrificed her life for the survival of Nigeria.

Akintola, in an interview with Pulse TV a few months ago noted that she felt honoured playing Adadevoh in the movie. She said;

“It was an honour, and the woman was obviously a saint. She must have had her[you know] but she was amazing. In Nigeria, we have this thing we do, anyone who is dead is great. But this was different in the sense that everyone I spoke to had little stories to tell me about different things.”

“We were shooting at the hospital where she worked, and I had done my make-up upstairs and I rushed to my car to pick up something. Coming back to the lobby of the hospital, there were few nurses there, and they started crying. They said I looked so much like her and it brought back memories. Now that tells you all you need to know about that kind of person.

The movie also stars popular Hollywood actor, Danny Glover and Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey as Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian who introduced the deadly virus into the country.

Critically acclaimed Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Adichie, and her husband Dr. Ivara Esegee have announced the birth of their first child. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Financial Times, Adichie noted that her daughter was born a while ago but she and her husband made a collective decision to keep the news private until now.

Sh said, “This is the first time I’m saying it publicly. I have a lovely little girl so I feel like I haven’t slept . . . but it’s also just really lovely and strange. I have some friends who probably don’t know I was pregnant or that I had a baby. I just feel like we live in an age when women are supposed to perform pregnancy. We don’t expect fathers to perform fatherhood. I went into hiding. I wanted it to be as personal as possible.”

The name DJ Obi will go down in the history books as the dogged Nigerian DJ who broke an existing Guinness World record and many would remember him for laying a precedence with his outstanding feat.

The Syndik8 Records’ official DJ, who has now deejayed for 8 straight days without sleep, is a man with a legacy to carry on and a dream that only those with the strongest of minds can fathom.

Here are 10 things you need to know about him:

1. DJ Obi, real name Obi Ajuonuma, is the son of the late Dr. Levi Chibuike Ajuonuma, a renowned media professional who died on board the ill-fated Dana air craft that crashed in 2012. Ajuonuma hosted the popular Saturday night programme, ‘Open House Party’ on Ray Power FM for years and generated quite a following with it.

2. Obi’s dad was also the host and executive producer of the ‘The Sunday Show’, ‘Levi Ajuonoma live’ and ‘Showtime’ on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and other top stations. He was also a former Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

3. DJ Obi has been honing his craft for eight good years. During this time, he clinched the Nigerian Entertainment Award (NEA) for “World Best DJ” in 2011.

4. The talented disc jokey has worked with international acts like Lupe Fiasco as well as local A-listers like Naeto C, Banky W, Lynxxx, 2Face and more.

5. According to him, Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs is a big inspiration to him and a man he looks up to. He has also had the privilege of meeting Diddy in person on a number of occasions.

6. The former world record holder for the longest marathon club DJ-ing in the world is Polish DJ, Norbert Selmaj also known as Norberto Loco. He played for 200 hours at the Underground temple bar in Dublin, Ireland from 19 to 27 November 2014. Obi has since shattered this record.

7. Even though Obi has broken a critically acclaimed world record, he will not receive any financial compensation for his effort but will have his name listed in the 2016 Guinness Book of World Records document.

DJ Obi whose real name is Obi Ajuonuma has officially broken the Guinness World record for the Longest DJ Set. He achieved this feat today Friday, July 1, 2016 at exactly 7:30 am, at the Sao Café, Lekki PhaseI.

He has now beaten the current world record of 200 hours/8 days which was set in Dublin, Ireland in 2014.

Obi, who has been on the ‘wheels of steel’ for eight straight days and over eighth hours without sleep is still on his quest.He hopes to round off his attempt by hitting the 10 day mark and deejaying for 240 hours straight.
