Ada Osakwe is the Senior Investment Adviser to Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, a role she was seconded to by the Tony Elumelu Foundation as an Elumelu Fellow. In this position, she works directly with the Minister on agribusiness investments and finance-related activities and leads all private sector engagements to stimulate increased agribusiness investments as the Ministry drives a “Government-enabled, private sector-driven” Agricultural Transformation Agenda that attracted over $4 billion in investment commitments in 2013.

Prior to this role, Ada was a Vice President at Kuramo Capital, a New York-based private equity fund that invests in high-growth opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa. Here she led the firm’s private equity transactions and invested in funds in Eastern and Southern Africa, while also managing the Fund’s portfolio investments. While at Business School, Ada worked with Actis, a multi-billion dollar emerging market private equity fund.

Ada spent nearly four years at the African Development Bank (AfDB) where she joined as the youngest professional to be hired in the institution’s 40-year history. Following her time on the Young Professionals Program (YPP) she became a Senior Investment Officer in the Private Sector Infrastructure Finance group where she led multi-disciplinary teams in debt and equity financing of infrastructure projects and investment funds across Africa. She started her career as an Analyst in the Debt Capital Markets team of BNP Paribas investment bank, London.

Ada received her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University where she was awarded a Merit-based Scholarship, the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award and the Kellogg Leadership Award, the highest student honour given for outstanding leadership.  She holds an MSc in Economics and Finance from the University of Warwick, U.K. and a BSc in Economics (First Class Honours) from the University of Hull, U.K.

In 2014, Ada was selected to the Archbishop Tutu Leadership Fellowship Program. At the age of 26, she was named one of the ‘Top 40 Under 40 Nigerian Female Professionals’ by the Nigeria Professional Network (NiPro). She is a founding board member of The SHAPE initiative, and IMPACT, both youth-focused non-profit organizations in Tunisia and Nigeria respectively. Ada is a Nigerian citizen.
