Living in bondage is a 1992 Nigerian drama thriller film directed by Chris Obi Rapu, written by Kenneth Nnebue & Okechukwu Ogunjiofor and produced by Okechukwu Ogunjiofor. The film was shot straight-to-video and starred African Movie Academy Award winner Kanayo O. Kanayo, Nollywood actors Francis Agu, Okechukwu Ogunjiofor and a host of others.

It is known as the pioneering movie of Nollywood.

1. Kanayo O.Kanayo

Anayo Modestus Onyekwere popularly known as Kanayo O. Kanayo, born March 1, 1962 is a Nigerian actor. In 2006 he won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

In 1992, Kanayo made his debut film appearance in the film Living in Bondage. Kanayo has starred in over 100 films.

He is currently a United Nations ambassador and bears the title of MFR.  Kanayo along with Kenneth Nnebue (producer of Living in Bondage), Olu Jacobs, Enoch Adeboye, Queen Elizabeth and Fela Kuti were among Nigerians honored by the government in 2014 during the centenary celebration.

Kanayo recently went back to the university to study Law.

2. Kenneth Okonkwo

e graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and later graduated with a Masters degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, Akoka. Kenneth went further to study Theology at the Bible School. Okonkwo started his acting career in 1992, featuring in the movie “Living in Bondage”.

3. Bob Manuel Udokwu

Bob-Manuel Udokwu a Nigerian actor, director, producer and politician. In 2014, he received the Lifetime Achievement award at the 10th Africa Movie Academy Awards. He was nominated for Best Actor in a supporting role at the 2013 Nollywood Movies Awards for his role in “Adesuwa”.

Bob Manuel buried his father in January 2017.

4. Ngozi Nwosu

Ngozi Nwosu is an actress, known for My Darling Princess (2008), My Darling Princess 2 (2008) and Living in Bondage (1992).

In an interview, the veteran once said ‘Living In Bondage’ signified the birth of Nollywood.

In her words;

“But Living in Bondage signified the birth of Nollywood and I acted a kissing role. When we were on that set, I had a kissing scene with the lead character played by Kenneth Okonkwo. Everybody, the entire crew, was wondering if I was really going to kiss him or not but it was a script and before they knew it, I kissed him and everybody started cheering and clapping.”

5. Nnenna Nwabueze–Okonta

 

Nnenna Nwabueze–Okonta is fondly called Merit, following the visible role she played in that pioneering Igbo movie, ‘Living in Bondage’.

She disappeared from the screen immediately after the film was released into the market in 1992. She got married  and her heartthrob, Chief Okonta, died few days to their 22nd wedding anniversary, on March 15, 2016.
