On Monday Of Last Week Trailer By Chimamanda

We will soon have the privilege of watching yet another book from the award-winning writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, come to life on screen. The Half Of A Yellow Sun movie adaptation starred John Boyega, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton; while the movie rights to Americanah have been bought by Brad Pitts’ production house, Plan B, and will star Lupita Nyong’o.

Last year, Chimamanda granted Ghanaian-American filmmaker, Akosua Adoma Owusu, exclusive rights to adapt, On Monday of Last Week, from her book of short stories, The Thing Around Your Neck, into a film.

The film, like the short story, tells the complicated story of a Nigerian woman named Kamara, who is hired by Neil and his wife, Tracy, an artist, to help care for their young child. Kamara soon realizes that she wants to be Tracy’s muse, and begins to question her preconceived notions of identity, attraction and beauty.

The cast includes Chinasa Ogbuagu (The Following), Karyn Parsons (The Fresh Prince of Bel Air), Peter Rini (Orange is the New Black), Jill Shackner (The Americans), and Farouk James Prempeh, who is making his acting debut.

On Monday of Last Week is one of eight films nominated for Best Short Film at the 2017 African Movie Academy Awards taking place on July 15 in Lagos. Ghanaian rapper, M.anifest, scored the film with frequent collaborator Drvmroll, while Grammy-nominated French duo, Les Nubians, composed original music for the “On Monday of Last Week” soundtrack.
