It was a huge loss in Nigeria when author, actor, playwright, producer Professor Akinwunmi Ishola died in his home in Ibadan on Saturday, 17th February 2018.
The now late author is known for his works Efunsetan Aniwura and O Leku and others in the literary world.
Ishola is said to have lived a fulfilling life having impacted deeply the Nigerian literary and film community.

1. Akinwumi Ishola was born in 24 December 1939 in Ibadan
2. He attended Labode Methodist School and Wesley College. He studied at the University of Ibadan, earning a B. A. in French. He also earned an M.A. in Yoruba literature from the University of Lagos in 1978.
3. He wrote his first play Efunsetan Aniwura between 1961 and 1962 when he was a student at the University of Ibadan. Then later O Leku. These works shot him to limelight as his books became widely popular. he was able to publish other plays and novels over the years.
4. Ishola also broke into broadcasting, creating a production company that has turned a number of his plays into television dramas and films. He wrote in both Yoruba and English.
5. Akinwunmi Ishola started his academic profession as a lecturer in Obafemi Awolowo University and was appointed a Professor in 1991.
6. He was also a visiting professor at the University of Georgia, USA.
7. In 2000, in recognition of his immense contributions, he was awarded the National Merit Award and the Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters.
8. In honour of his Alma mater in 1986, he wrote and composed the college anthem that is currently being sung in Wesley College Ibadan.
9. He is survived by a wife and four children.
