Christmas is here and with it comes the anticipation of the release of Nigerian movies.

Many movies are now scheduled to premiere during the December period, examples are Wedding Party 2 (2017) and Chief Daddy (2018). Probably a strategy by the producers to make more money but you can tell that it’s definitely working as these movies sell out at cinemas.

As the tradition, here are the top 5 blockbuster movies you can watch at the cinemas this December.

 1. Muna

The movie stars Adesua Etomi playing the leading role alongside Adam Huss, Sharon Ifedi, Robert Miano and Onyeka Onwenu.

Muna is the story of a spirited girl raised by her grandmother; the last surviving member of their family. Muna’s driving desire to provide a better life for herself and grandmother in the land of milk and honey leads to shady characters that will change the trajectory. Landing her smack dab into the hands of traffickers. That experience turns her once golden heart into one driven by stone-cold revenge on those who stole her innocence. In her grand plan, love was never on the agenda. When secrets and betrayal complicate her strategy, she has a tough decision to make. Will she remain a prisoner of her past or allow love to set her free?

The story is by award-Winning author Unoma Nwankwor, screenplay by Kevin Nwankwor, Joe Leone, Liam Parry and directed by Kevin Nkem Nwankwor.

Muna premiered in cinemas on Friday, December 6.

2. Your Excellency

About a year after ‘Chief Daddy’ recorded outstanding success, EbonyLife Films owned by Mo Abudu has release d another highly anticipated movie ‘Your Excellency’.

Your Excellency’ tells the story of Chief Olalekan Ajadi (Akin Lewis), a bumbling, billionaire businessman and failed presidential candidate, who is obsessed with Donald Trump. Just when his campaign looks set to be another disaster, Ajadi is anointed by a major party and becomes a credible contender – all through the power of social media.

As the drama unfolds, it seems possible that even the most inept candidate, with little to offer voters except viral soundbites and amusing antics, can mount a serious challenge for the presidency through the power and influence of social media.

Directed by Funke Akindele-Bello, which is also her directorial debut, the movie boasts of a star-studded lineup.

Some of them include Funke Akindele who plays lead actress, Shaffy Bello, Kemi ‘Lala’ Akindoju, Kunle Coker, Eku Edewor, Emmanuel ‘EmmaOMG’ Edunjobi, Alexx Ekubo, Aletile ‘Seyi Law’ Lawrence, Bimbo Manuel, Ini Dima-Okojie, Chioma ‘Chigul’ Omeruah, Helen Paul and Toni Tones amongst others.

The movie premiered on Sunday, December 8 and will hit the cinemas on Friday, December 13.

3. Merry Men

Merry Men 2, The sequel to the 2018 blockbuster, ‘Merry Men’ is another movie everyone is looking forward to this month.

Produced by AY Makun, ‘Merry Men’ tells the story of four Abuja’s most eligible and notorious bachelors dubbed ‘The Yoruba Demons’, who are known for their thriving businesses, palatial homes, fast cars and penchant for beautiful women.
For the sequel, AY, Falz, Ramsey Nouah, and Jim Iyke return as the Merry Men, and Williams Uchemba joins them as the fifth Merry Man.

BBNaija star, Alex Asogwa makes her Nollywood debut in the ‘Merry Men 2′ alongside, Nancy Isime, Linda Osifo, and ace actress Iretiola Doyle.

Merry Men 2 will hit cinemas on Friday, December 20.

 

4. Kpali

Though relatively unknown compared to the others, it is one movie bound to captivate

‘Kpali’ is the story of Amaka, a young Nigerian and Investment Banker, who has 30 days to secure a resident permit (Kpali) in the UK or face the consequence which might include disappointment or deportation.

Directed by Ladipo Johnson, the movie stars Inidima- Okojie, Kunle Remi, Uzor Arukwe, Seyilaw, Linda Ejiofor, Abounce, and Linda Ejiofor.

Kpali is set to hit the cinemas on Friday, December 20.

5. Sugar Rush

Sugar Rush is one movie that has been on the lips of people since its release date.

Directed by Kayode Kasum and produced by Jade Osiberu, the award-winning ‘Isoken’ producer, the movie is set around the events that occur after a missing $800,000 is found by the main characters, Sola (Bisola Aiyeola) and Sussie (Adesua Etomi).

Things, however, take a darker turn, as different claimants come into play, seeking to regain the lost money by any means possible.

Some of the cast includes Bisola Aiyeola, Adesua Etomi, Bimbo Ademoye, Banky W and D’Banj who makes his Nollywood debut.

‘Sugar Rush’ will hit cinemas nationwide on Wednesday, December 25.
