Tinsel is a Nigerian soap opera which has been called the most successful television drama on Nigerian television in recent times.

1 Tinsel was in pre-production for over ninety months before it began airing in August 2008 .
2 Over 500 actors were auditioned for the lead role of Fred Ade-Williams before the decision to cast Victor Olaotan was made.
3 Tinsel’s plot revolved around two rival film companies: Reel Studios, founded by Fred Ade-Williams (Victor Olaitan), and Odyssey Pictures, headed by Brenda “Nana” Mensah (Funmilola Aofiyebi-Raimi).
4 As of June 2013, the show’s production cost per minute wass 900 dollars, and total costs exceeded four billion naira.
5 The show was shot in a studio in Ojota, Lagos until March 2013 when a fire destroyed that location. Since then the show has been shot at a studio and a private residence in Ikeja.
6 Tinsel returned for its eighth season on the 25th of May, 2015.
7 The longest running TV series in Nigeria, which aired it’s 1000th episode on May 23, 2013 made history by airing its 2,000th episode on Thursday 23rd March 2017.
8 The M-Net Africa Magic series is the first Nigerian television show to achieve such a feat.
9 The popular TV series, can boast of not just being one of the country’s most watched soap operas, but also a platform to produce 3 celebrity couples who met on its set.
10 Tinsel won its first Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award at the 2017 edition, where it earned the Best M-Net original drama series.
