Players of the Nigerian Premier League club, Taraba United are expected to take-home two months’ salary arrears by Tuesday December 29, 2015.

Team number-one goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Obilo, revealed to goal.com that the state government has promised to come to their aid after their continual protest, sleeping in front of the Government House in Jalingo.

He said: “We have been assured that we would get two months of our salary arrears paid on Tuesday. It was difficult to pay us on Wednesday because of some issues but we are around in Jalingo waiting for Tuesday to come before travelling to our base.”

Meanwhile, Shehu Dikko, chairman of the League Management Company (LMC),  confirmed that players, coaches and other staff of FC Taraba, numbering 53 were on Tuesday, December 23 paid one month salary by the LMC.

According to him, it is to enable them celebrate the festive period with their loved ones.

“This payment was made pursuant to our letter to FC Taraba dated December 6th, 2015 and in line with the non-sporting sanctions imposed on FC Taraba since November.

“The LMC will continue to monitor the situation at FC Taraba and keep up the engagement with the State Government towards and amicable resolution of the unpaid salary issues for which the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Congress endorsed the actions and recommendations of the LMC on the matter,” Dikko assured.

However, the if their welfare problems are not properly addressed.

According to the players, the League Management Company (LMC) ought to put their welfare first and make sure all the outstanding debts owed them last season have been settled, while making proper arrangements on how they will be paid regularly in the new season before the league commences again.
