The 344 workers of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic Bori, who were sacked by Governor Nyesom Wike on assumption of office, have dragged the Rivers state government to court for illegal termination of appointment.
The matter was filed at the National Industrial Court sitting in Yenagoa by lawyers from the institute of human rights and humanitarian law led by Anyankwe Nsirimovu.
The Rivers state government served the court papers on Friday last week. Other parties that were joined in the matter are the state ministry of education and the management of Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic formally known as Rivers state polytechnic, Bori.

The aggrieved workers decided to take legal action against the Rivers state government because several attempts to have Governor Wike to reserve their sack had fallen on deaf ears.
The governor had in July ordered the sack of 344 newly-recruited workers of the Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic who had passed through all due processes of interview and recruitment and had been issued appointment letters.
The workers were about to resume duty upon receiving employment letters and staff identification cards by the management of the Polytechnic, and had gone ahead to open salary accounts before Governor Wike ordered the termination of their appointment.

The affected workers were employed by the immediate past administration of Governor Chibuike Amaechi and raised allegations that the termination of appointment was a political vendetta against those alleged to be loyalists of Amaechi.
