As 2015 winds down, Lagosians have aired  their opinions on what they expect from the governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode in 2016.

Naij.com had a chat with Lagosians from different walks of life on what Governor Akinwunmi Ambode should do in 2016.

Eng. Tope Johnson, an elder statesman acknowledged that Babatunde Fashola, the former governor of Lagos state made a great landmark while in office. He is hoping Governor Ambode would continue in the good works by embarking on projects that would address the challenges of housing, power supply and improve the standard of living in the state.

Johnson complained about the bad states of roads in the state most especially in Lagos suburbs. He lamented that most of the roads awarded by local government authorities  were left undone while others were not properly constructed.

He called on the state governor to probe the state of all road construction contracts awarded at the various local government areas in the state. The senior citizen also tasked Ambode to give job creation a priority.

”The governor should remember that the youths in the state voted for him massively because they believe he can help their plights being a young man as well.Lagos is usually a point of call for every graduate because they believe they are more prospects in the state. I expect the governor to create jobs in return to put smiles in the faces of the teaming  unemployed youths in the state,’‘ he said.

Segun Ademola, a student of Lagos State University wants the governor to address the internal crisis and the irregularity of academic calendar  being experienced in the university.  Though acknowledged the state government had started some developmental projects in the university, he advised that the governor should still address the internal crisis to avoid a repeat of the past.

Esther Bankole who works with a leading food company in Surulere, said she wants this administration to inject more BRT buses on the roads, reduce traffic to the barest minimum and control the activities and the indiscriminate parking of tanker drivers in Ijora environs.

Shehu Aminu, a resident of Ikorodu had a different perspective, he wants the Lagos state government to reduce unnecessary spendings, that is cut cost of governance and focus more on problems that demand urgent attention.

Dayo Lawal tasked the governor to curtail the incessant disturbance of peace by hoodlums popularly known as area boys in his Ebute Metta residence as he noted that cultists and hooligans are always in place to wreck havoc when they clash.

He asked the Lagos state government to improve social amenities in Lagos and added some areas are not getting the necessary government attention.

A commercial bus driver, Eso who also owns a bus known as danfo named Eso wants the government to put a check on how some security operatives and hoodlums extort them.

He complained bitterly that such collection is too exorbitant especially when they will have to compete with the BRT buses in terms of fares to make ends meet.

Augustine an indigene of Benue State who hustles with his okada on a daily basis insists that the use of task force who indiscriminately collect money from them should be minimised as his take-home is nothing to write home about.

Same goes to Uche the tricycle rider, who also complained about the unions who feed on their sweat all in the name of collecting tariffs.

Both men pleaded for the Ambode-led government to come to their rescue as some people are consuming their daily earnings without doing anything.

A road side pepper seller known as Iya Blessings pleads with the Ambode administration to allow them sell their wares on the streets since she is unable to pay for a shop.
She admitted that it is against the law to sell in prohibited areas but she said that they have nowhere else to go as their chances of survival in the state will become slim if they dare go elsewhere.

However, a civil servant who wants to be anonymous applauded Amode’s administration for re-branding and equipping  the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos with more operational vehicles.  He expressed satisfaction in the area of transportation but he begged the government to provide jobs for the unemployed as he suggests this will keep the restive youths engaged.
