After defeating five states, Bauchi state has been crowned as the 2015 best cultural troupe at the ongoing Calabar Festival.  Bauchi state’s cultural troupe carted home a star prize of ₦5 million after leading five other states of Akwa Ibom, Anambra,  Oyo, Kogi, and Kaduna.

Also in a competition for local governments, Bakassi topped the list carting home ₦3 million.

Also in the local governments’ competition, Bakassi topped the list carting home ₦3 million as the best overall troupe. Bakassi was adjudged as the best in the application of the festival theme, entitled, “climate change”. 
The cultural parade which took place at the Millennium Park was flagged off by Cross River state governor, Prof Ben Ayade who reiterated the commitment of his administration to improve upon the culture and heritage of the state in 2016.

“Today, Cross River is going to lead the entire Africa like we did in the climate change because we believe in the culture and heritage of the African people,” Ayade emphasized.

Urging the participating troupes to come out with their best, the governor assured of a “renewed cultural parade with a theme, style and culture with an African dimension”.

“Culture is dynamic, it must grow and we must modernise our culture to reflect the growth of Africa,” the governor said.

Governor Ayade has also called on all Muslims in Nigeria, to use the occasion of the Eid-el  which is the birthday of Prophet Muhammed to preach and unity for the progress of Nigeria. He made the call in a press release signed and made available to by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Christain Ita.

“While I congratulate all my Muslim brothers and sisters across the country on this year’s Eid-El-Maulud, to mark the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammed, may I appeal to you that as we celebrate the holy Prophet’s birthday, your prayer for the peace and unity of our dear country is needed now more than ever before.

“As devout faithful, let us harness our creative energies, our love for one another towards the development of the country by aligning with our President, Muhammadu Buhari to help realise the dream of the founding fathers for a better Nigeria.

“As we celebrate, we must not be unmindful of the lessons of Eid -el-Maulud, which is love , peace and devotion. You have always demonstrated good examples by exhibiting the true teachings of Muhammed, I want to, however, urge the Muslim across the country to continue to join hands with people of other faith to preach peace, love and unity which our country desperately needs.

“May the Almighty Allah fill your hearts with His love as you celebrate in peace,” Governor Ayade said.

Meanwhile, to eradicating or at least reducing to the barest minimum, the scourge of unemployment in the state by end of his first tenure in office.
