Troops of the Joint Force in Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, have reportedly arrested seven suspected hoodlums in connection with piracy, illegal oil bunkering and armed robbery in Bayelsa State.

According to The Punch, the suspects comprising three sea pirates, two bunkers and two armed robbers were paraded by the troops in Yenagoa on Thursday.

While parading the suspects, Commander, Operation Pulo Shield, Major General Alani Okunlola who was represented by the Coordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre, Col. Isa Ado , said the seven suspects were arrested by troops of Sector 2 of the command on December 21 and 22 in Southern Ijaw while patrolling the creeks.

He added that the troops recovered four short guns, four cartridges and 12 mobile handsets and other personal belongings during the operation.

The names of some of the suspects were given as Gabriel Abel, 23, Ebiaredia Godday, 23, Samson Ezekiel, Gift Enihus and Richard Christian.

He noted that the suspects were being detained in the custody of the command as preliminary investigation was ongoing before handing them over to prosecuting agencies.

On the achievement of the Command in 2015, Maj. Gen Okunlola said the command had carried out a sustained and aggressive manhunt against oil-related crimes in the region in line with the zero tolerance campaign of the current national and military leadership against oil theft and illegal oil bunkering.
